Driving the number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM, Dirk Müller (DE) recorded a personal best time of 1:19.143 minutes in the 15-minute session. This put the German, who will share driving duties with John Edwards (US) and Dirk Werner (DE) in Saturday’s race, in seventh.

At the wheel of the number 55 car, Bill Auberlen (US) tackled qualifying for the classic Petit Le Mans. After completing seven laps, the experienced BMW driver had to make do with 11th on the grid. Road Atlanta (US), 4th October 2014. The inaugural season of the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) came to a close with a turbulent Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta (US) on Saturday. BMW Team RLL’s Dirk Müller (DE), John Edwards (US) and Dirk Werner (DE) came seventh in the GTLM class with their number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM after 388 laps. The 11th round of the year was won by Porsche drivers Wolf Henzler (DE), Bryan Sellers (US) and Marco Holzer (DE).

For the number 55 BMW Z4 GTLM, however, the USCC finale came to an early end: After less than three hours, Joey Hand (US) was forced to retire the car due to engine problems. Alongside Hand, the team’s regular drivers Bill Auberlen (US) and Andy Priaulx (GB) had shared driving duties in the black BMW Z4 GTLM.

Another BMW team had reason to be happy after the ten-hour race near Braselton (US), Georgia: Turner Motorsport. The number 94 BMW Z4 GTD, driven by Dane Cameron (US), Markus Palttala (FI) and Christoffer Nygaard (DK), took the chequered flag fourth in the GTD class. This result secured Cameron the crown in the drivers’ classification as well as the team title for Turner Motorsport.

2014 Titles to BMW, Hindman, and Fall-Line Motorsports.

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – Oct. 4, 2014 . . . A second-place finish by Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 drivers John Edwards and Trent Hindman in Friday’s 2.5-hour Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race secured the first professional driver’s title for 19-year old Hindman, the team championship for Fall-Line, and the third GS manufacturer’s championship for BMW in the last four years (2010, 2011, 2014).

Entering the season finale at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA, Hindman held a five-point lead in the driver’s standings. The 19-year old started the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3 from the rear of the GS field after not posting a time in the red-flagged qualifying session on Friday. He moved strongly through the field before handing off to Edwards. Edwards held the fourth position until the third- and second-place competitors made contact with two laps remaining, and Edwards maneuvered past both. He finished 2.186 seconds behind the winning Mustang of Ian James and Billy Johnson to secure the title for Hindman and put himself into the runner-up spot.

BMW 2 Series Convertible

by BMW of North America
9/10/2014

- Style and dynamics of the acclaimed BMW 2 Series Coupe combined with open-air driving
- Available in the US as 228i and M235i
- All-wheel drive 228i xDrive available from launch

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – September 9, 2014 6:00pm EDT/3:00pm PDT . . .
Few new cars have been more anticipated than the BMW 2 Series Coupe when it arrived in early 2014. Hot on the heels of the widely acclaimed BMW 228i and M235i Coupe, BMW announces the new BMW 2 Series Convertible. Available in the US as the 228i and M235i, the 2 Series Convertible blends the style and dynamic driving character for which the 2 Series Coupe is already renowned with the open-air pleasure of a folding soft-top. The BMW 2 Series Convertible will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show. The 2015 M235i and 228i, as well as the 228i xDrive, featuring BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive system, will arrive in US showrooms in early 2015. The 2015 BMW 2 Series Convertible will be offered at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of $38,850 for the 228i, $40,650 for the 228i xDrive, $48,650 for the M235i, including $950 destination and handling.

The BMW 2 Series Convertible follows in the tire tracks of the pioneer and undisputed leader in its class – the BMW 1 Series Convertible. The 1 Series Convertible entered the fray as the first open-top premium model in the sub-compact segment, went on to defend its position as clear market leader against subsequent pretenders to its throne, and achieved sales figures in excess of 130,000 units worldwide. The development team for the new BMW 2 Series Convertible has focused squarely on building on the strengths which proved pivotal to this success. With even more grace, athleticism and sharpness about its design, clear advances in terms of performance as well as efficiency, and improvements in the driving comfort, functionality and innovative equipment features it offers, the BMW 2 Series Convertible takes the qualities displayed by its predecessor to a new level.

The number 2 has a special importance in the model history of BMW and, since the arrival of the BMW 02 range more than 45 years ago, has represented exceptionally sporting driving pleasure in a subcompact car. Introduced in 1966, the 02 series went on to become a byword around the world for sporty, agile handling – and from 1967 these gifts could also be enjoyed with the roof down. Specialist coachbuilder Baur wasted little time in developing a pair of soft-top variants based on the BMW 02 range which were produced until 1975.
